| White mucosal thickening is seen along the lateral margin of the tongue (gross findings). | Acanthotic thickening of the non-keratinizing squamous mucosa seen (HE, low power). | |

| Intranuclear inclusions are seen in the superficially located squamous epithelium (HE, high power). | EBER-1 reactivity is observed in the nuclear inclusions (in situ hybridization). This is an exceptional situation, in which EBV forms nuclear inclusions. | |
