Peritoneal biopsy from an aged female who
had a history of perforated colonic diverticulosis 1 year earlier

An oval-shaped 1 mm-sized seed containing germ layers is embedded in the fibrinofibrous matrix (HE, low power). Budding features are traced on the right, indicating that the seed was eaten without previous heating (cooking).
The seed is histologically composed of vegetable cells with distinct cell wall and eosinophilic coarse granules representing chlorophils (HE, high power). The thin and furred seed capsule is pigmented.
