| In AIDS encephalopathy, multinucleated giant cells are formed around small vessels (HE). | The multinucleated giant cells represent CD68-immunoreactive macrophages (immunostaining). Mononuclear macrophages are also seen. The macrophages express CD4, which functions as a receptor for HIV. | |
